Rees Panel Project

Recognising the Value of Care Experience

Rees Panel Project promotes and facilitates care experienced adults within fostering & adoption panels. Our aim is to provide specifically tailored training and to connect panels with skilled care experienced people.

Find out about care experienced panel member opportunities and upcoming training events.

There are issues in general for recruiting and retaining panel members due to the frequency of panels, the availability of professionals and those with relevant experience to attend. In addition fees vary considerably and often do not reflect the extensive reading required for most panels.

In the recruitment of those with care experience, there are also additional anxieties about exploitation, providing appropriate support and their understanding of the role and function of the fostering panel. However, diversity and differing perspectives within panel are essential to the coherent functioning of a panel and those who are care experienced have a unique and valuable contribution to make.

The training and support we provide aims to equip people with the skills required to take on the role of a panel member, whilst acknowledging the complexities of utilising personal experience in a professional context.

Aims of the Panel Project

· Recruiting care experienced people to become panel members

· Specific & recognised training

· Ongoing support – buddy system & network

· Creating a UK wide database of care experienced panel members

· Connecting panels with trained care experienced people

· Providing guidance to panels

· Developing excellence in practice & raising standards
